Are You at Risk of Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. 90% of skin cancers are due to overexposure to UV light either from the sun or solariums.

Skin Type is One of the Main Factors in Skin Cancer Risk

There are certain types of skin that have greater risk of developing skin cancer. Know your skin type and how you can better protect yourself from sun damage.

Routine skin checks is also highly recommended.

Personal Medical History

Those who have a history of the following have a higher risk of skin cancer:
  • One or more blistering sunburns as a child or teen.
  • Many moles or abnormal moles called Dysplastic Nevi.
  • One of your parents or siblings has had skin cancer.
  • You’ve developed skin cancer at least once before.
  • Radiation therapy.
  • Chronic, non-healing wounds or burns.
  • Organ transplant patient.
  • Exposure to toxic material, i.e. arsenic.
  • Exposure to subtypes of HPV.

Activities that Increase Risk

  • Indoor tanning
  • Smoking
  • Over-exposure to the sun
